Over 2000 exhibitors from 45 different countries descend on Basel in Switzerland, and display the best jewellery and watches that they have to offer. One manufacturer that never disappoints the crowds at Baselworld is Tag Heuer; every year without fail this Swiss manufacturer has something to show off. Started way back in 1860, Tag Heuer are one of the biggest names in watchmaking, and are known for creating incredibly intricate timepieces that are prized the world over for their quality and precision. With such design icons as the Carrera, the Monaco and the incredible F1 in their repertoire, Tag are always under pressure to blow people away at Baselworld, and this year they have bettered even themselves with the incredible V4.
The V4 is a watch that does something totally different, as it uses a belt to move the Tourbillon mechanics of the watch’s interior. Director of Tag Heuer Guy Semon highlights the fact that the belt naturally absorbs shock, and therefore adds extra resilience to the watch; ensuring it is protected from everyday bumps and knocks. The design of the watch was also a talking point, the dark case and exposed mechanism couple to give this an incredibly robust and masculine appeal.
The superb intricacy of the mechanism is what really sets this watch apart from many others. The tolerances that the mechanism operates on are so minute and intricate, that it requires total engineering perfection to get the balance right and to utilise it in the way that Tag Heuer have.
