Previously in this blog we looked at watches as worn in the movies. The beauty of the watch is that, much like someone’s shoes, you can tell a lot about someone by what style they wear. So in our first of a two-parter, let’s take a look at what styles are on offer for the fellas, what they say about the wearer.

Digital

There was a time in the 80’s and 90’s when you couldn’t move for digital watches. It seemed everyone had a Casio strapped to their wrist. These days digital watches are usually worn by either the seriously sporty, active types, or those favouring the ironically cool retro look. If you’re the former, then you’re going to be a competitive chap who appreciates the all-round durability of the digital watch – they can sure take a battering, they can be fairly disposable and easy to read during the daily work-out. If you’re the latter, you’re likely to be young, fashionable and always-always-always on-trend. Either way, you’re as bold as your watch choice.

Classic

If you wear the classic style of watch, with a metallic bracelet and a clean, rounded dial, it says a whole lot about you. You’re a traditional fella, who enjoys the simple things in life. You probably don’t wear a watch to impress anyone, it’s just a brilliantly practical device with which to tell the time. In fact, the word ‘practical’ sums you up to a tee – from your alphabetised bookcase to your colour co-ordinated wardrobe.

Vintage

There are a few reasons that a gent like yourself owns a vintage timepiece. For one thing, you’re sentimental – especially if you’re wearing a family heirloom. For another, you enjoy the finer things in life, like alligator leather bands and well-crafted watch faces from the days when style meant something. No matter which the brand of watch – and it’ll always be a famous brand – you’ll always know precisely what you like and how to get it. You know your own mind, and your own fashion.
